THE SOLUTION

Change must happen from the ground up- that is why the Libyan Migrant Project recommends getting involved with Civil Society level organizations working on the ground with communities in Libya.

1. Stay Informed

2. Get Involved

Getting involved in this issue can span from donating money and time, to directly serving migrants in Libya. Here are some NGOs and organizations where you can get involved in these ways:
Missing Migrants Project
International Rescue Committee
Doctors Without Borders
Libyan Women’s Platform for Peace
Sea Watch
ACTED Libya

Before donating time, money, or attempting to participate in this conflict, it is important to first reflect on your place within the context of this issue. The west has built distrust among Libyan migrants through repeated failures, and attempts to push Western ideals on Libyans. Humanitarian efforts should prioritize Libyan voices and organizations. Ian Urbina, for the New Yorker, writes, “‘Why are you trying to embarrass Libya?’ they asked. They repeatedly told me, ‘You people killed George Floyd.’”
